Wireless

Wireless network connectivity is currently available for use by students enrolled in courses meeting in the eStudio. Please follow the directions below to register for a connection.

Please note: eStudio wireless is in a testing state. Encryption is good, but be gentle.

Wireless Registration Process

1. Find the MAC address for your wireless device.
2. Fill out an online request for a wireless account.
3. After receiving account information, configure your wireless device for access.

 

Finding Your Wifi MAC Address

Windows XP
1. Your wireless network device must be enabled in the "Network Connections" settings found in the Control Panel.
2. From the 'Start' Menu, choose 'Run'.
3. Type 'cmd' and press Enter.
4. In the command line interface window, type 'ipconfig /all' and press Enter.
5. The Wireless Ethernet Address is a 12-digit number(can include A-F) divided into 6 pairs, e.g. 00:11:22:33:44:55. The description field for the wireless controller usually contains the word wireless.

Mac OS X:
1. From the Apple Menu, choose 'About This Mac' and click the "More Info..." button. ( or look in Applications:Utilities:System Profiler).
2. Under the Contents column, select Network
3. In the Active Services window select Airport.
3. Listed at the bottom of the window is the Ethernet MAC Address; it is a 12-digit number(can include A-F) divided into 6 pairs, e.g. 00.11.22.33.44.55.

 

Configuring Your Wireless Device
You should configure your wireless connection while in eStudio.

Windows XP
1. From the "Start" Menu, choose "Control Panel" and then "Network Connections".
2. Right click on "Wireless Network Connection" and select "Enable".
3. Right click again on "Wireless Network Connection" and select "Properties".
4. Under the "Wireless Networks" tab, click the "Add" button to bring up the "Wireless network properties" window.
5. In the "Network name(SSID):" field, type artnetap2
6. Change the "Network Authentication" to "WPA" and the "Data Encryption" to "AES".
7. Click on the "Authentication" tab and change the "EAP type:" to "Protected EAP (PEAP)".
8. Check the "Validate server certificate" and "Do not prompt user to authorize..." fields.
9. Uncheck the "Connect to these servers:" field.
10. Change the "Select Authentication Method:" to "Secured password(EAP-MSCHAPv2)".
11. Click the "Configure" button.
12. Uncheck the "Automatically use my Windows logon name...." field and click the "OK" button.
13. Click the "OK" button in the "Protected EAP Properties" window.
14. Click the "OK" button in the "Wireless network properties" window.
15. In the "Network Connections" window, right click on "Wireless Network Connections" and select "View Available wirelss networks".
16. In the "Wireless Network Connections" window, select "artnetap2" and click the connect button.
17. Either a window will appear on screen asking for a username and password, or a message bubble will appear in the lower right hand corner of your screen.
18. Enter your user name and password and click "Connect".

Mac OS X:
1. From the menu bar at the top of the screen click on the Airport symbol and select the "artnetap2" network from the network list.
2. In the "Airport" window, change the "802.1X Configuration" type to "TTLS-PAP".
3. Enter your username and password.
4. Check the "Remember password in my keychain" field to save your password.
5. Click "OK".
6. In the "Verify Certificate" window, click "Continue".
